Mobile Volunteering Learning Consortium update

March 3rd, 2009

Last month, I shared my thoughts on the mobile future of volunteering, and announced a unique consortium project that will bring together a select group of associations to collaborate in building their capabilities in this important new area of work.  So far, the response to the Mobile Volunteering Learning Consortium has been excellent, and I’m looking forward to hearing from more organizations this month!

As I mentioned in my previous post on this topic, the new technology we will use in the consortium is called The Extraordinaries, and I’m very pleased to announce that this powerful platform was selected as the Non-Profit Grand Prize Winner of the We Media 09 Pitch It! competition at the We Media conference in Miami in late February.  This is an incredible recognition for Jacob Colker and Ben Rigby, co-founders of The Extraordinaries.  Congratulations guys!

Clearly, the broader non-profit world is recognizing the importance of micro-volunteering, so this new project for associations is an incredible opportunity to be one of the first organizations in our community to apply leading-edge technology to address a critical strategic challenge.  If you’re interested in being a part of the Mobile Volunteering Learning Consortium, please e-mail me today!

Below is a brief video from Jacob, recorded during the We Media conference, explaining how the platform works.  As you will hear, it is the simple brilliance of the idea that gives The Extraordinaries platform its power.
