Remain calm and invest in the future

Screaming guy
To association leaders who are watching the turmoil in global financial markets and wondering what they should do next, let me offer the following advice:

Remain calm and invest in creating your organization’s future.

We’re all justifiably concerned about what the current economic instability portends for the work of our associations, as well as for our jobs and our families.  Under these circumstances, it is easy to adopt a let’s-play-it-safe-and-wait-and-see-what-happens attitude.  But it is the wrong approach right now.

It is during these times of uncertainty that our stakeholders most need us to take bold action on their behalf.

It is during these times of uncertainty that our associations can shine brightest by demonstrating a capacity to create radical new value.

It is during these times of uncertainty that the investments we make in people offer a far greater return than investments in the stock market.

You want to shock your staff, your colleagues or your volunteers?  Ask them the following question:

How will we innovate today?
