Video of me talking about blogging
May 1st, 2008
NOTE: It will take a few seconds for the video player to appear, so please be patient!
In March, I was invited to tape a short segment on blogging for The Magazine Group website. The video was posted yesterday, and I thought you’d be interested in viewing it. In the video, I talk about the P.R.E.P. method for applying social technologies, and Kathleen Drew, the segment’s producer, does a really nice job of adding emphasis to those points.
We recorded the segment in a studio at Reuters in downtown DC, so the B roll you see of me typing was actually shot in the Reuters newsroom. I have to confess that it was a little strange to sit there and type nothing in particular while the cameraman captured footage for the producer to add in later.
Most everyone has heard the old saying about TV and movies that “the camera adds ten pounds.” Echoing in my head as I view this video are the words of Chandler Bing, who once asked in an episode of Friends when this adage came up, “So, how many cameras are actually on you?” Fortunately, it is only 3.5 minutes long!

Next stop, Hollywood. This is a good video. The PREP method is great. Waiting until the Experimentation phase to focus on technology takes the emphasis off the technology and places it on what really matters most to your association–your market’s needs and your strategy for meeting those needs.
Not to downplay the importance of implementing the right technology, but without Purpose and Readiness, you really don’t stand a chance.

Why can’t we view this from Australia? I get a message in place of the video screen that reads: THE VIDEO YOU ARE TRYING TO WATCH CANNOT BE VIEWED FROM YOUR CURRENT COUNTRY OR LOCATION.
