Associations don’t need MySpace
March 1st, 2007
Attention all association leaders who think their organizations should be on MySpace! Please follow these three simple steps:
- Read this post to the FC Now Blog, and pay special attention to the comments.
- Understand that MySpace is no longer the “new thing.” Quite the opposite, it has passed its tipping point and is now on the decline.
- Get over MySpace and think creatively about how your members want to connect with each other, not how you think they should want to connect.
Social networking has the potential to unleash radical value for your members, but only if it serves some purpose that is relevant to those who will actually engage in the networking. Keep it simple by focusing on how to support a full range of possible member outcomes, and not on the hype surrounding various technologies.
