Simplicity is top trend for 2007

January 24th, 2007

Global futurist Richard Watson has just released his report on the top trends for 2007, and simplicity is at the top of the list. Watson, who writes a quarterly update on trends called What’s Next, argues that the influence of the simplicity trend is spreading beyond its original focus on technology products. As Watson writes:

Making products simple is actually very complicated. First you need to make your company simple. This means simplifying not only structure and process, but also culture and mission.

Although most associations don’t make technology products, we must recognize the essential power of today’s focus on simplicity. Associations that are willing to embrace simplicity as an opportunity for both improved execution and strategic innovation in all areas of their work will find new wellsprings of success in 2007.

Please join me on Saturday, January 27 at 6:30 pm at the Great Ideas Conference for a special conversation on my recent article, “The Struggle for Simplicity.” I look forward to seeing you there!
