P.I. Podcast #5: Interview with Jackie Huba
January 10th, 2007

It’s been a week since my last post, mostly due to some scheduling issues and technical challenges on my end. But during this last week, I did have the opportunity to interview author and social media evangelist Jackie Huba about her new book, Citizen Marketers: When People Are the Message, which she co-authored with Ben McConnell. I really enjoyed my conversation with Jackie because we shared a deep belief in the extraordinary possibilities of social media. In addition to writing about social media in this book, Ben and Jackie write the Church of the Customer Blog and do an occasional podcast as well.
In our interview, we talk about some of the ideas and stories in the book, as well as about how associations should approach social media. Jackie challenges associations to experiment with social media in activities in which they are already engaged, such as meetings and events. Her perspective echoes advice I have been giving to associations for the last couple of years, and I was quite pleased to discover that she agrees with me!
We talk about the Rule of 1% and the patches that she and Ben had made up for those of us who fall into that group. (Of course, you did have to buy the book to get one, but it is a book about marketing after all!) I promised to post a picture of the patch and so here it is.

I have to confess that this isn’t a picture of my patch. I stole this picture from Jackie and Ben’s blog. It works just fine though, and saves me about 15 minutes!
As I wrote last week, this is my first podcast in a few months, so I hope you enjoy it. As always, I encourage you to share your thoughts with me, either as comments or by e-mail. Please also make note of the fact that I have added the capability for you to share this podcast (and all posts on this blog) on various social bookmarking and news sites. The “Social Bookmark This” pull-down menu can be found just above the comments field.
(The podcast is just over 30 minutes.)
