PI Blog mentioned at CBSNews.com

November 1st, 2006

I’m in Boston today attending a meeting and I received an unexpected e-mail from CBSNews.com blogger Melissa McNamara. Melissa writes an online column called Blogophile, and this week she provides an overview of the blogosphere’s reaction to several noteworthy events, including the iPod’s fifth birthday last week. She quotes my post on the subject in her column:

“Sure, there are other MP3 players, but no other device sparks the deep emotional connection of the iPod,” a blogger at Principled Innovation writes. “The iPod is one of those rare products that has transcended its original purpose to become a genuine cultural icon.” And, he should know. He and his wife own six.

It is this kind of random connection to a broader dialogue that drives my passion for the blogosphere. It would never have occurred to me to reach out to someone like Melissa to see if my thoughts were worthy of inclusion in her column, and if it wasn’t for this blog, she would have no way to find out what I think about the iPod and its impact on our society. The globally-connected conversation happening on the Web right now is incredibly powerful and millions of people participate everyday. How much longer will your association wait to join in?
