Google Docs to be announced tomorrow
October 10th, 2006
It’s been a while since I’ve done back-to-back Google posts, but I thought this news was worth sharing. Several blogs are reporting that Google will announce the creation of Google Docs tomorrow at the Office 2.0 conference, which is taking place in San Francisco. Google Docs, which should be accessible at docs.google.com once it goes live (right now you will get a 404 Error), will merge Google Spreadsheets and Writely, making documents from both applications accessible at a single location. Both applications support multi-user collaboration.
Google Docs should be a good tool for associations looking to facilitate simple and inexpensive collaboration with members. Google is now paying more attention to the integration of existing products with each other, so I suspect this will not be the last announcement of this kind. I certainly believe that Google Docs is another step toward the ultimate evolution of a web-based Google Office suite, which should include Gmail, and perhaps the long-rumored Gbrowser or Firefox. Stay tuned for how all of this shakes out.
FYI: I have created a Google category to the P.I. Blog, and I will go back and add previous Google-related entries to it for easy access.
