No show, no go and P.I. Live!

September 20th, 2006

Well, no one showed up for today’s PI Skypecast, so it didn’t happen. (No show, no go!) As with last month’s canceled Skypecast, I will record a podcast instead on today’s intended topic of microinnovation. The light attendance for my last two scheduled Skypecasts (July and today) makes me wonder about the need to continue doing these sessions. To be honest, my chief concern when I began doing Skypecasts earlier this year was that no one would show up, especially since so few association professionals actively use Skype. In the spirit of modeling innovation, however, I thought it best to prototype something and learn from it. I think it is fair to say that I have definitely learned something!

But I am not one to give up easily, so I am pleased to announce that next Wednesday, September 27 at 2 pm EDT, I will produce and host the first segment of P.I. Live!, a 30-minute live streaming Internet radio show. The best part of this real-time conversation is that it doesn’t require Skype to listen in or participate. You can simply listen on your computer and you can call in to the show by dialing 347/996-5848. The show will also be recorded and archived for future download. The underlying technology for P.I. Live is provided via BlogTalkRadio, a site I encourage all associations to check out. It may be that BTR’s services will allow your organization and your members to create new communications possibilities online.

It would be easy for me to look upon my Skypecast experiment as a failure and, on some level, it is. But that is what I love about the work of innovation! While this one thing hasn’t worked out as I had hoped, I’m trying something else to see if it can work better. Sometimes the powerful idea jumps into your lap right away, but more often, it takes several attempts to discover and develop the idea that is going to make the difference for you, your organization and those it serves. Failure is a necessary ingredient of the innovation process, something we have to actively identify and pursue in order to recognize true success when it emerges. I hope each of you is willing to court failure in your work, as you try to make innovation a genuine priority in your association!

If you have any comments or questions about microinnovation, Skypecasts or the inaugural P.I. Live! Internet radio show, please e-mail me ASAP.  I look forward to being in the air with you next week!

I am glad you enjoy the site.

We designed the site insuirng that the hosts blog is seamlessly integrated into our platform. And yes unlimited streaming, archiving and no restriction on the type of phone service both hosts and callers use, are clear differences between Skypecast and Blogtalkradio.

    Good luck using Blogtalkradio.
