The Web is 15
August 6th, 2006
After celebrating MTV’s 25th birthday last week, I think it is appropriate to acknowledge that the World Wide Web turns 15 years old today. It was on August 6, 1991 that (now-Sir) Tim Berners-Lee first made his WWW project known and available to the public. It would be another five years before I surfed the Web for the first time, and it is hard for me to remember what life was like before that time. I’m sure many of you feel the same way. We have come an incredibly long way in an incredibly short time, but I hope you’re prepared for what’s comes next, because we ain’t see nothing yet!
Check out this excellent timeline, created by the BBC, of the Web’s evolution over the last decade and a half.
