A spoken blog post
August 4th, 2006
I’m sitting here at my computer, and I’m quite happy with my recent purchase of Dragon NaturallySpeaking 9.0. I decided to purchase it after reading a review of the application in the New York Times by David Pogue. Pogue, who writes a weekly column on technology for the newspaper, described Dragon NaturallySpeaking as akin to “having a secretary in your PC.” To be honest, I was a little skeptical, so I thought I’d give it a whirl for myself. A few years ago, I tried to use voice recognition software on my computer, with very poor results. Pogue’s review of this application was the first really strong endorsement of such software I’d seen in some time, and it forced me to take notice.
The software arrived today, and I installed it immediately. So far, I am rather pleased with the results, even though I’m still learning how to use it. Although it will take some getting used to, I expect that I’ll be using this software to dictate e-mails, documents and even podcasts. I can already see the value of having this application for late-night blog posting, and that is exactly how I created this post, i. e., I “wrote” it by speaking it.
So, if you’re looking for an application of this kind for your own use, I think you will be as excited as I am about the Dragon NaturallySpeaking 9.0!
