I won’t blog for at least a year
July 18th, 2006
That’s the word from Sheri Jacobs, CAE, Association Forum’s chief marketing officer, shared during a podcast interview with Ben Martin that was posted to his blog early this morning. You will recall I recently named Sheri as one of the seven association leaders I believe should be blogging. Ben asked Sheri about my “calling her out” and she offered the following response, which I transcribed as closely as possible from the podcast:
Oh wow, I don’t know if I do. I’m not sure…I think blogs are great when somebody has a sense of humor and has a lot of interesting things to say and can commit time to it. I feel like I have a number of commitments and I only want to do them if I can do them well. So I don’t see it [blogging] in the next year.
Sheri is the incoming chair of ASAE & The Center’s Membership Section Council and is editing a membership handbook as well. While choosing to focus her time, energy and attention on those important volunteer responsibilities for the next year, Sheri does provide a glimmer of hope about a possible blog. “Maybe in the future, I guess I wouldn’t count anything out,” she speculated.
As a fellow ASAE & The Center volunteer leader this coming year (I am honored to be chairing ASAE & The Center’s Executive Management Section Council beginning next month), I completely understand Sheri’s desire to focus on that big challenge. In fact, if I weren’t already blogging, I would not have chosen this particular year to jump into it. My friend, business partner and fellow blogger, Jamie Notter, suggests that I do for Sheri what I did for him: buy a blog domain name as a gift! I don’t think I’ll go that far, at least not yet. ;>) For now, I’ll just share in Ben’s optimism that Sheri will join the ranks of the Blogoclump within the next 12-18 months. Sheri, we’d be honored to have you as a member of our group!

Nobody at the Forum blogs and we see that as an absolute tragedy! We’re making the push to get more Chicagoland Associations on to blogging, but our efforts haven’t panned out yet.
Our route is going to be through education and to speak to the CEO’s about the value and power of RSS. First, though, will be to the supplier partner’s at their next SIG on 8/17, then shortly after at the CEO’s SIG. I believe the whole blogging thing comes with a little bit of knowledge first.
